Meet Todd Bubak, Golf Course Superintendent:

My name is Todd Bubak and I am the assistant Golf Course Superintendent of Wild Horse Golf Course. I will be starting my 12th season at Wild Horse in 2020. I graduated from Cozad High School in 1982 and started my love for the golf maintenance industry that summer. After graduating from Kearney State College in 1989, I began working full time at Cozad Country Club. In 2009 I left for Wild Horse and have loved it ever since.
My duties at Wild Horse are half maintenance and half mechanic. I mow, aerate, top dress, etc, and make sure mowers are ready to go everyday along with the other day to day duties. Our maintenance crew makes sure the course can be played any day of the week without the conditions changing. We take great pride in our crew making sure the conditions are perfect. I firmly believe that Wild Horse is one of the finest golf courses in Nebraska and the country. We have the best crew, members, stockholders and board of directors around.
I am married to Lisa Bubak who works for the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office and also manages the Cozad Elks Club. We love to travel all over the country and the Caribbean in the winter. We also enjoy spending time at home and fishing in South Dakota in the summers. I can’t imagine my life being any different.

Meet Don Graham — General Manager

Learn more about Don below:

My name is Don Graham and I am the General Manager at Wild Horse Golf Club. I came to Wild Horse from the Norfolk, Nebraska area in the fall of 1999. I am a Certified PGA Professional in Executive Management. I will also be celebrating my 25th year as a PGA Professional in May of 2020.
I graduated from Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska with a degree in Business Management and a minor in Economics. I went to Wayne State to play baseball. My small hometown of Coleridge, Nebraska didn’t have a high school golf team, so my competitive spirit went to the baseball field. I am grateful that I choose to go to Wayne because I met my wife, Carrie there. We have four wonderful children that have all left the nest. Our daughter Elizabeth lives in Tarzana, California with her husband Jordan. Our oldest son Jackson lives in Fort Worth, Texas, middle son Nathan lives in Kearney, Nebraska and our youngest Thomas is attending college in Hastings, Nebraska.
I am passionate about giving back to the community. Raising our family in Gothenburg has been a blessing and I don’t take it for granted. Some of my best memories include being able to coach my children in basketball and golf and helping to bring the local YMCA to fruition through my involvement with the Gothenburg Health Foundation.

Josh Mahar — Certified Golf Course Superintendent

Learn more about Josh below:

I am Josh Mahar, Certified Golf Course Superintendent at Wild Horse Golf Course. I helped construct and grow in the course and have worked here since its inception in August 1997. My start in golf course maintenance goes back 31 years to when I took a summer job at my hometown Chappell Golf Club. That experience eventually spurred a further interest in the golf course management field. After my sophomore year in college I realized that being a superintendent was the career for me. I went on to garner my BS in Horticulture-Turfgrass Option at University of Nebraska- Lincoln. Luckily my internship during college was at Sand Hills Golf Club. I was part of the team that constructed and grew-in that course in 1994. Upon graduation I returned to Sand Hills as Assistant Superintendent for two years before Dan Procter and Dave Axland asked me to come down to Wild Horse for a great opportunity. It has been a joy to manage this great property and I still love to see her

My team of 7-8 people during season is responsible for all groundskeeping duties here at Wild Horse. We take great pride in presenting the course to the golfer in its best possible condition for that day. We really enjoy that so many people come out to recreate and have fun away from the trials of everyday life. Seeing people enjoy their time out here is very rewarding for all of us. I am married to Amy and we have one son Eli, 14 and that beast beside me is Baylee. Her duty here at
Wild Horse is to keep all rabbits and gophers honest.

Justin Henry — Head PGA Professional

Learn more about Justin below:

I was born in Kearney, Nebraska in November of 1989.  I grew up and attended school in Cozad, Nebraska where I am still residing today.  I went to college at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where I graduated in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Professional Golf Management and a minor in leadership and communications.  This will be my third year working at Wild Horse as a PGA Professional.  While in college I interned at several courses throughout the summer months.  Some of which include; here at Wild Horse, Meadowlark Hills in Kearney, Nebraska, Firethorn in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Lake Maloney in North Platte, Nebraska.  After graduating college, I took a Head Professional job in Woodward, Oklahoma at Boiling Springs Golf Club.  I was there for a little over a year before deciding to move back home to be closer to my family.  I then found myself working for the Cozad Community Hospital for three years, until this amazing opportunity of getting back in the golf industry came about.  I am blessed with having three beautiful boys, Emerson (9), Parker (6), and Braxton (3).  Tylyn and I also have another son on the way in March.  My family means everything to me, and I would not be where I am today or who I am today if it wasn’t for their unending support and love.  I am forever grateful for everything they do.

Some of my duties and responsibilities as the Head Golf Professional at Wild Horse include, assisting in the supervision of the clubhouse staff and cart kids.  I also help in the day to day performance of the golf course such as setting up and checking in tee times, keeping pace of play, all proshop and food and beverage operations, etc.  I assist with all aspects of tournament operations such as the set up, handicapping, scoring, flighting, and so forth.  Throughout the year I’m in control of the maintenance of our golf cart fleet.  I am responsible for the proshop merchandise inventory and help with the displays and restocking of our shop itself.  I also run both Monday and Thursday night men’s leagues, as well as Tuesday night ladies leagues.  Additionally to that, I oversee and teach a junior clinic in the summers, and also give individual and group lessons to both adults and children throughout the year.

I am truly blessed to be able to have the opportunity to be associated with this “one of a kind” golf course.  When I say “one of a kind” course I’m not just talking about the beautifully intelligent layout or the overall shape of the course each year, but also the amazing staff I get to work with everyday, the members and guests I get to be meet and be around, and the outstanding overall bond the entire Gothenburg community has as a whole.  I look forward to continue to help Wild Horse grow and succeed for many years to come.  I truly love the game of golf.  It has been a part of my entire life, and I cannot wait to continue to do my part in growing this game whether it is people learning, like my own children or people that have played for several years.

Shellie Rossell — Director of Guest Operations

Learn about our Director of Operations, Shellie, below:

I have worked at Wild Horse for 5 years.  The best part of my job is all the wonderful people I get to meet and work with.  I have made a lot of new friends over the years and it’s great to see them return each year to Wild Horse.  I am responsible for booking the golf packages.  We have the “Links of Nebraska” package which includes Wild Horse, Awarii Dunes in Kearney, and Bayside at Ogallala.  I make it so easy for each of the groups they just tell me when and what time they would like their tee times and where they would like to stay and I take care of it for them.  We have excellent lodging facilities on site so a “Stay & Play” package is available as well.

I am also the Food and Beverage Manager; I take care of all the ordering of beer, liquor, soda, and food that is served in our clubhouse.  I also prepare food and cater for our bigger golf outings and I prepare meals and serve our lodgers of 8 or more that are staying in our cabins.

I was born in Oklahoma and moved to Nebraska when I was in second grade, Gothenburg is Home.  I am a single mom of three wonderful children, Alyssa 29 and her fiancé Kristopher, Taylor 20 and her husband Chadwick, and Jordan 18 a senior in high school.  Two grandsons Cameron 8, Collin 6, and granddaughter Grayli Kay expected to make her arrival March 2020.

I am not a golfer, but I learn something new and exciting about the wonderful sport everyday.  When I’m not at work you can find me chasing my son and grandsons around to different baseball fields.  I play pool each week on a local pool league and enjoy playing a good game of Texas Holdem  when I can.  Hopefully someday I can take some golf lessons and get out and enjoy our wonderful Wild Horse course in my spare time.
